New Cast House Equipment to POSCO
The world’s 5th largest steel producer POSCO located in Pohang and Gwangyang, Korea will reline its No. 3 Blast Furnace in Gwangyang next year. During this relining the capacity of the blast furnace will be increased to 5,500 m³.
For this relining TMT will supply new clay guns, taphole drills and cover manipulators with the required hydraulic system and electrical control at the end of the year enabling automatic operation in the casthouse. The taphole drills will be equipped with the latest fully hydraulic reverse hammer with “on-line” power switching for optimal and smooth opening of the taphole. We received the order from POSCO E&C Co., Ltd.
The blast furnace will be shut down in February 2020 and after a very short construction phase blown in again in May 2020. This is a great challenge for all involved in the tight project and requires a smooth process and reliable partner.
TMT tapping machines are in operation at all blast furnaces at POSCO, including Blast Furnace No. 1 in Gwangyang, the world’s largest blast furnace with a capacity of 6,000 m³. We greatly value POSCO, its high technological standards and its focus on safety and reliability.
We are very thankful for the ongoing confidence that POSCO places in TMT by ordering new casthouse machines for Blast Furnace No. 3. Our close cooperation with POSCO – already lasting decades – means a lot to us.
