thyssenkrupp Steel Europe operates blast furnace 9 at the Duisburg-Hamborn site with a working volume of approx.1,850 m³.

During a routine inspection of the taphole opener a serious damage of main bearing of the swivelling device was found after more than 30 years of operation. The repair was planned for September but now had to be carried out immediately due to the operational requirements of customer. Together in a team with TKSE employees the taphole opener was changed and put back into operation within 4 days under complex conditions. The campaign was successfully carried out to the full satisfaction of TKSE and all those involved.
